I am putting together a 4x4 76 f100 with:
-302/NP435/205
-D44/9"
-4" lift springs in the front
-full length add-a-leafs in the rear with a shackle flip using a set of front
hangers in the rear
I have the frame already assembled for the most part and I am stumped.
does anyone know what style rear drive shaft came in this truck?
With all the mods you are doing it may be easier to just have one made.
Also FYI to jumbofordman, if you have a slip joint in the middle of your shaft it's a two piece and will have a center support bearing. I may just be reading you wrong though.
Yep, you are reading me wrong. I have no center bearing, but the slip joint is in the shaft. I have a 4x4, 205 transfer case, which has a yoke output, not splines.
I had one custom made after my stock shaft pulled apart during a hard stop. Guess 3" of lift is just a little much for the stock shaft. Incidentally, the stock shaft was the same (no center bearing.)
it's a long wheelbase I guess I should have posted that up.
the info I was looking for was if it had the carrier bearing or not and if not did it have the 3 u joint "cv" style w/slip joint, or the 2 u joint slip style.
because of the mod's I am doing to the rear I need to know so I can set the pinion angle
here is another question:
I have a 76 2wd long wheelbase that I plan to gut to finish my truck up. can I use any part of that shaft to make this work?
it has the carrier bearing but it is a c4 truck so the shaft is solid.
My parts truck is a 74 F100 4x4 with a C6/205 and has the carrier bearing. My good truck is also a 74 F100 4x4 with a C6/203 and it has NO carrier bearing. I always thought it was a little weird one had it and the other didn't. Just figured it had something to do with the C6/203 being so much longer then the C6/205 combo.
Bill just out of curiosity since the top part number lists 75-96 I walked over and looked at the neighbors 91 F150 4x4 and it doesn't have the center support bearing, standard cab long box configuration.
It's got me curious and I am betting that it doesn't list it because on the ones that have it there is no difference between the 2wd and 4wd, example a supercab long box would have one 2 or 4wd, same thing with the crew cabs but the standard cabs would only have it in the 2wd. (did that make sense? )
Not sure how you would verify that with the books, like I said everyone I have owned that was a standard cab long box 4x4 did NOT have it, all same config 2wd DID have it and the supercab long box 4x4s I have owned (2 of them, 1 F150, 1 F250) DID have it.
Maybe just do a look at a for curiosity sakes a 77 F150 standard cab long box 4x4 drive shaft and see what configuration it shows it being and if it would need the support bearing or not? and see what we come up with.
