You probably do have air in the system. I am not familar with the newer 7.3. You might want to ask these guys.

Yeah, you just got air in the lines. I'd turn the key on and off a few times to fill the fuel filter bowl, and then crank it till it starts. It will run like crap for a few minutes till the air is gone though.

NOTE- next time you do that, let me follow you with a bowl to get some free fuel!

Yep, like they said, cycle the key for about 20-30 second allowing to fuel pump to purge the systems. Don't crank more than 15-20 seconds at a time to keep from burning up the starter. Make sure you batteries are up to par and don't worry about mowing the grass in the 100 yard stretch.

After doing a complete service, I forgot to close the WS valve. I was letting it run and went to feed the horses and as I was walking back the truck starting running real rough and I could see fluid flowing out under the front. I knew exactly what I did. I closed it and started it back up. It ran really rough. But I had read in a thread that it will work the air out. It took a while and a few trips but it did work it out. I have NEVER forgot again.

Good Luck.....

ok im not sure my problem i changed my fuel filter cause i though it was dirty and left the seperator open. i had some stalling problems before i changed it and thought it was filter. it did it at different times no patterns though. after i changed filter and closed seperator i had it started twice it died both times and i cant get it started now. it bowl is full olf fuel and the tach jumps when i try to start it i just had batteries tested and they are good. it sounds like it is trying to hit but it wont start. any help would be appreciated

Sounds like it is still got some air in the fuel lines. Try cycling the key several times, allowing the pump to push the air out. Make sure you valve is not letting more air in and the cap is on tight, in other words, no fuel leaks. You may want to charge your batteries good. Extended cranking will weaking them and prevent starting.
You may have a CPS problem as well. The stalling and restarting are classic symtons and complete failure will cause no start. The tach usually don't move when bad, but not always.

I'm betting on the CPS.......I once had mine go bad when I ran the truck completely out of fuel. Not sure why it toasted it, but it did. It's a good idea to change it out anyways if you have the old style one in. Dealer sells the new "updated" gray ones for like $25 bucks, or DP Tuner sells the better black ones for $65 I think. Some have had issues with the gray, I haven't.

ok i got it started after all day of trying. it ran really bad no smoke and it acted nlike it was starving for fuel so i drained the bowl and closed the drain this time. i had my wife turn the key on and i looked in the bowl while it was empty and i saw the bowl fill slowly very slowly and it only filled up about 1/4 of the way. i then went to listen for the fuel pump on the rail and could here it and stop about 20 seconds later. it there any way to test my pump without the fuel gauge. and does this sound normal please help need my truck for work.

Should fill much faster than that. Assuming you have fuel in your tank, you may have the pickup screen in the tank clogged, or the inlet screen in the pump clogged, or a bad pump. Unhook the lines pre pump and using an air hose, blow into the tank, try again. May be a good time to do your intank mods. You can check your pressure with a gauge, but if you are only getting a 1/4 bowl in 20 seconds, you know you have delivery problems.

Harpoon mod (In Tank Mod)
Fuel By-Pass And Regulator Install pictures from cars photos on webshots

The links above show the mods I was talking about. It removes the parts of our OEM system that allows air in the system and slower fill ups.
The screen in the pump is just there to prevent large debris from going through the pump. Sometimes it gets trash and prevents good flow. You will need to take the fuel lines off to get to the pump screen. When you were watching your bowl fill, was there air bubbles,or just a slow steady stream of fuel. You may also want to check voltage at the pump. Make sure your getting full power and good ground.

no i saw no air bubbles so the pump or clogged lines would be problem then could i take line off in front of pump and turn key on to see fuel coming out of line and if so how far or fast should the pump pump fuel? should it spray fuel a foot out of line or more or less do you think? i looked at the mod photos and the picture didnt look like the pump was pumping very fast in the yellow can? is there a volume that it is supose to pump in a minute like two gallons a minute or someting?

You could, but chances are the clog will be pre pump. Not much place for a clog between the pump and bowl. As far as the steam, a good pump will have around 60psi adn that will wet you pretty fast. You could take the line off before the pump and see if you have a flow there. Should gravity feed at a good stream.
