What I fail to understand is the reason that Ford decided to make two different styles of upper radiator hose, with the most common application the pass through type hose.
DOH!!!
Lets see,,, UHMMMM,,
Ford stock $2.00/sh or thereabouts.
Selling products not in tune with world economy (priced too high against competition).
Then trying to cut corners and save a few inches of rubber to cut a few cents off each truck to save a little $$.
I bought the optional hose to replace mine so I would not have to remove the hose to change a fan belt. That would be really poor engineering to have to remove the hoses, drain the cooling system every time you change a hose.
I really despise the NUT behind the fan blade that has to be removed to get the pulley off the pump. Another better Idea I suppose.
This brings up another question. In the info link for installing, it shows some very wide/strong looking clamps. Does anyone have a link for heavy duty hose clamps. My local autoparts and HD just have the crappy ones.
WEll now that work is slowing down I am gonna try to get mine in. IT has leaked down to just below the min. mark and has stopped leaking like it was. I am gonna get it pressure tested to see if it is the pump or the seal. I am on a budget so I am gonna do the airtex and try to get the new hoses. How hard is the coolent filter to put in just reroute the line?

If you go with a non-SCA extended life coolant you do not really need a coolant filter. JMHO
I was going to go with Rotella but I am gonna settle for some Final Charge from Napa.
No SCA needed with the Final Charge so you won't need to filter out the silcate that drops out of the SCA. Just flush the system real well and you will be good to go. Don't forget to open both block drains.
Filter? What filter? First I heard. I figured at 144,000 miles on the first pump was pretty good. But If i can make it last longer!.. Thank you for the info. Any specific type.
Bob Riley @ dieselsite.com sells a coolant filter for our trucks. very good kit. im putting one on mine real soon. make sure u buy extra filters, because u will clog them up for the first three filter changes,
Guys:FYI: My 99.5 came with a single alternator-(hose through the belt) and when I changed all my hoses, belt, and Tstat/housing and added the coolant filter from Dieselsite (and installed the around the belt hose) the coolant filter rubs the hose VERY closely probably crushes the hose 1/8-1/4 inch which I didn't like, so I went back to the through the belt hose, now I have at least an air gap in between. I do have a brand new GATES around the belt hose if anyone needs in please pm me.
