I need to jack up front and rear the F250 PSD. Does anyone recall if I can get by with a one ton jack or will I destroy it. Also, what weight rating of jackstand should I look for when buying jack stands?
i use a 6 ton bottle jack..easy to use..easy to hide in the truck.... these front end are pretty heavy...makes a 2 ton jack hard to pump up..your truck wieght is around 7500.. i would find at least a 3000 lb stands..5000 would be better...
I use 3,000 lb jack stands, never had a problem. A one ton jack will probably not do the job. Like Ron I have a 6 ton bottle jack carried in the toolbox, also have a 3 ton, and a hi-lift jack. At home I use a 3 ton floor jack, always works like a charm
I had a 2 ton floor jack that would lift and hold the front end up but it was straining. Now I have a 3.5 ton hi lift floor jack that lifts it much better and easier. I also use 3000 jack stands in addition to the jack, I am not just going to trust a jack if I am going to work on the front of the beast and mine is just a 2x4!
One thing people arent aware of.... I bought some 7k stands from harbor freight, but on the box it says that is 3.5k per stand. When you take the harbor freight sticker off the stand is labled 3.5k. They rate them by the pair so they can put a higher number
If you have a local Harbor Freight, check them out. They have pretty good prices on HD jack stands and jacks. I would not suggest that they be used in daily operation of a professional mechanic shop, but they do well for most of us shade trees.
I have some HD jackstands at my parents house and I have used them on my Bronco but never on a F250 or heavier. I need to check out their weight rating. They are pretty old so....
I also have an old HD floor jack in a shed over there that I think can hold the weight of my F250. I need to check that out too buy I can't get it to the house due to all of the rain we have had. There is no way I can drag that thing through the mud.
So the only thing I have if the OEM jack and a 1.5 ton floor jack until the yard dries out.
I guess my plans will have to wait until it gets too cold to work outside....LOL....
