I have a fitting on the carb that goes to a fuel hose and and inline filter. I replaced the filter yesterday and noticed that while at idle, that sucker will go dry! But the truck still runs and there is no hesitation or starve when you rev it up. Is this normal? If not normal, then what?
Sometimes depending on the angle of the filter it can get an air bubble in the top of the filter. If you can see the bottom of the filter it should have petrol in the bottom.
So, when replacing the pump, do I need the motor to be at top dead center? What's the easist way to get it there? Can you pop the dist cap and see where the rotot points or something like that?
Also, is an autozone replacement good or is there a better brand out there?
Check pump before you replace it. Warm engine up. Take fuel hose off at carbie and put the end into a container to catch the fuel. Get someone to start engine while you check how much fuel flows into container. Should be 0.5 litre in 18 seconds at idle. Should be enough fuel left in carbie bowl fot test.
I always have an inline filter before the fuel pump as the valves in the pump can get dirt stuck in them.
