For the first time my fuel water light came on. But when I shut of truck and restarted ( picking up daugther at babysiter ) the light went off never to see it again. Should I be concerned about this since it went off. Its been a week now. Do I need a fuel filter change, been about 10k miles.
Just never seen the light before other then starting and thought I would ask you guys...
Open the fuel bowl drain and catch what comes out. If there's water in there, it'll be obvious. It's easy enough to check your filter -- after you drain it a little, open the top and have a look at it. If it's really dark and the screen looks plugged, it's certainly time for a change. But the normal interval is 15k -- unless you got some bad fuel. It happens... If you need one, get it form Geno's Garage (site sponsor). He sells the Racors for ~$17.
The last time that I changed the fuel filter I had a hard time getting the gasket to seal and when I filled the bowl with fuel it BLEW all over the place. I don't know if I will take the cover off till I change the filter.
Should I still drain the bowl to see if there is water in even though the light been off?

I don't know if this was your problem, but I've read that some of the new fuel filters come with a flat gasket instead of the old fashioned bevel gasket. The flat gasket needs a fine coat of motor oil on it to seal properly. That's something new that they somehow left out of the instructions.
the gasket was the beveled one. The instructions were different from the way I took the old one off so I didn't know what to do. I just know when I change out the filter again I will do the gasket the way I take it off, since it sealed for me.
