general drivetrain Q's

hi, i just picked up an 81 f-150 and am curious about the drivetrain. its a 351W, C-6, 9", but i dont know what front diff or transfer case these came with. how do i find out?

It should be a 351m (not a 351w), a Dana 44 TTB front axle and an NP208 t-case if it's original.

Didn't '81 mark the intro of the 351w into the F series?

Check your valve covers. If they are trapazoid, it's a 351w. ( /----\ )

Also, thermostat housing and top radiator hose going into the intake manifold = 351w

Going into the block in front of the manifold = 351m.

You can also post data plate info and get a translation.
