Need help deciding

OK- I found some info - now I need help.
I want to raise the rear of my 2001 F250 about 1-2".
I have heard there are several ways to do this:
Add a leaf, larger blocks, airbags, shocks etc.

What is the easiest and cheapest way to do this?
I called one off road place and they said it would be about 3-400 bucks to add a leaf to each side. They said it would be more than that for the airbags- I do not have the time or tools to install larger blocks myself.

What is recommendation??
Thanks

Cheapest way , is to add lift blocks, you may need longer U-bolts but it is a fairly easy way to gain 1 to 2" of lift.

Shocks DO NOT raise a vehicle. But taller shocks may be nessecary if you raise it 2 inches.

Add a leafs also work good, but that price seems a bit high to me.

Jetsfan68,

If your F250 is completely stock in the rear, the U-bolts in most cases are long enough to add a 1" block without changing U-bolts. This will cost you less than $40. To be sure, just measure how much thread you have extending past the U-bolt nuts. If it's MORE than 1" then you are good to go. If not then you will need to buy a block kit which includes U-bolts and cost around $80.

The other route would be add-a-leafs which require a bit more time and mechanical ability. They would run you around $100 but would stiffen the rear suspension a bit.

Any other route will be expensive for the amount of lift gained.

My truck is a Ranger and I bought Rough Country add-a-leafs for around $50 and had them put in at a spring shop for $150 - I know your truck is much bigger, but maybe you could find a suspension/spring shop that is cheaper than your original quote. I think the blocks would be OK too, if you don't want any extra load carrying capacity such as if you were trying to prevent squatting down in the back when loaded.

Overkill-
Thanks... I did measure and I have well over 1" left on ubolt thread.
Now the big question. How hard is it to get those bolts off??
I have large sockets, but something tells me- it's not going to be easy. Any recommendations??

Jetsfan68,

Those u-bolts should only have about 110 lbs. of torque on them so spray them with some WD-40 just use a breaker bar. They should come loose pretty easily. Once you install the blocks, be sure that the bolts extend past the nuts.

Its easy, just replace your stock 2" block with a 4" block.

Should take you an hour at most!

After swapping the block out, make sure you retorque the u-bolts after about 50 miles. Mine were VERY loose! Over 1 turn each!

Don't most newer trucks sit higher in the rear than the front though? I have seen leveling kits for the front end, but not the rear. The rear usually sits higher and sags as it is loaded. I cannot imagine what it would look like if was lower than the front when empty, then loaded with a ton or so then sagged even more. I put an add-a-leaf on my F250 in the front due to it's front end droop, not the rear. Am I missing something?
