Things are going to get MUCH tighter in NASCAR before they get better. The problems the auto companies are having will filter down to NASCAR. All four auto companies that compete in NASCAR are having problems and this will affect all the teams to some degree.

Me thinks that Dodge won't be in NASCAR much longer......

As for the merger, both teams will still be mediocre at best.

What kind of stock car can they run today, with the CV discontinued from retail and no GM RWD sedan other than Cadillac? Maybe Cadillac, Lincoln, Chrysler and Lexus? In the low-price brands, can you see a real FWD Camry, Fusion and Malibu competing with a RWD Charger?

Actually Mustang vs Challenger vs Camaro would be real good, but those are "sports cars" as far as NASCAR is concerned, not "sedans".

I've seen some online postings, and read in some magazines as well, that NASCAR has given some thought to using the "pony cars" in the Nationwide (ex-Busch) Series in the future. I think that would make for some great racing...IF they go back to being actual "stock" cars. I for one would'nt mind giving up seeing cookie-cutters going heading into Turn One at Daytona at 190 MPH in favor of "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" cars going 150 MPH.
