Idle goes from 730 to 830 with a tune in and 780 to 880 stock.I also noticed a slight surge at highway speed a couple times and it felt like she dropped half of the cylinders when I got in the drive way. The ICP is less than a year old. Has anyone that had a failed FICM had similar symptoms.
It's an 03 motor so the sct fitting isn't an issue. That said the HPOP, ICP sensor, connector and IPR were all replaced 10 months ago. The injectors sometimes go almost quiet when it acts up. That all is what makes me lean to the FICM.No codes yet. Ideas or thoughts are welcome.
let me start by saying My husband and I both Love our truck: F-350 diesel powerstroke, 6.0 bla, bla,bla Kings Ranch long bed crue cab. she is only 2.5yrs old and after the 60K work up she seems to be terminal! now that we have the Rino lining in her and a pop-up goos neck hitch, we have her the way we want her. all but the fact that she dies on the side of the road! Hummm I remember an acronym from the 70's...
she has been towen to at least 4 different dealer repair shops, had over the span of six time so far, all 8 of the fuel injectors replaced at least once and some for the 2nd or 3rd time! all this in 6months. now we USE our Truck and Need it! we haul cabinets and horses along with equipment. We bought her NEW! paid for the extended warrinty on her and Thank God for that! after not getting anywhere or at least not FIXING THE PROBLEM we called the woman who sold it to us, she did some research, called tow repair shops in Pheonix and the Dealer our baby came from, she found this issue (Vapor Lock) is a known problem in this model, our symptoms: water in the fuel and then she just dies. after sitting she will sputter and run a short distance and then die again...pete and re-pete... Help, we can't have this! We don't wishe to dump this n anyone else. Ford should just fix this issue.

I recall reading that there has been a rash of FICM failures recently.

Water in the fuel is not Ford's fault. You need to purchase your fuel at a different Station. Drain the bottom filter to get the water out. How often do you use your truck? Do you add a diesel fuel additive such as Diesel Kleen on every fillup?
I just did a visual on the injector harness and it is exactly as I left it when I was in there last, I re-taped and armored it when I had the motor out. The ICP and pig tail still look new without a drop of oil on the top of the HPOP cover.I am at a loss except to change the FICM. The strange quiet of the injectors and sometimes dropping cylinders for no reason makes me think I am headed in the right direction. The last thing I want is the truck to shut down with 6000# in the box so I won't wait until it throws codes to tell me what went wrong.
Check with some guys over at competitiondiesel.com in the 6.0L forum. There's a couple 6.0L gurus who might be able to shed some light on if your FICM is failing.
we have been purchasing our fuel all over from several co.'s (Shell, Cheveron, cirlcle K, Safe way, Tuck stops like TTT) between Tucson Az, NM and CO.
the fuel has been tested and is on report the fuel is good! the entire system has been flushed out not once but twice; well we were charged twice but according to the last time the first one never happened. you see what is in the tank is good, H2o is getting in the fuel line after it leaves the tank. it is getting caught in the filter and the alarm is going off.
I thought it was bad fuel too, this idea was shot down for several reasons, 1) the amount of locations purchased from, 2)it has been tested and came back clean 3) we know several diesel owners who buy from the same places who do not have this issue.
Ford has offered us to extend the Powertrain warranty to 200K, which is nice of them, it just does not help when you are stranded or you have no breaks on the side of the Mt. so now we have a Lawyer.
This is the first I have heard about vapor locking w/ the 6.0L. Also, water simply can not get into the fuel line after the tank. You may have several issues going on. As jmaskew suggested - have you actually drained the HFCM (frame rail fuel filter) and actually seen water in the fuel? If so, it came from the fuel tank.
Good news. New FICM and all is well. The tech that flashed it said the FICM is either bad = no start or good and truck runs there is no in between.I guess he learned something new today. The FICM was $670 and the flash with me doing the install in the lot was $125. She is going back to work in the morning all in all I am very happy at the cost and only one days work lost.

Glad you got it working. Good thing you did the install cuz I'd be worried about a tech who doesn't know that a FICM could go bad and not kill the truck completely. Can you post up the part # for future reference? Thanks.
