I'm John, heading to O'ahu tomorrow for the first time on Tuesday. I'm a Navy Seabee and a Ford truck driver since I could. My '95 is my rig now, she's a legendary beater with 277k on the clock, and I am very excited about living and working in Hawaii!
I've been on FTE since '02 and I'm a gearhead through and through. I never imagined that I'd get to live in Hawaii, but I really look forward to chatting it up with y'all!
Wow- this safety inspection process is not very cool! I got it done, but I had to fix my hazard lights and my windshield washer squirter/pump- stuff that I couldn't care less about but I do need that sticker.
Anyways- I'm here on O'ahu and getting the boards wet every weeked- this island is beautiful! Got a place in Pearl City and work at the Navy base in Pearl Harbor. Only complaint is no Sirius or XM here! I like hard rock and heavy metal music so I guess it's ipod and CD's while I'm doing the Kamehameha Highway crawl.
Anybody else surf the north shore? I was out last weekend and there were sea turtles swimming right past me- what an amazing experience!
I do some canoe paddling, mostly at Haleʻiwa. We have been canoe sufing
in a red four person canoe.
My son and I plan to start surfing at Sunset, rather than Laniakea.
We live in Wahiawa, so the drive is pretty easy for us to get to the country.
You should stop by my place on your way to the North Shore someday.

I'd love that! This weekend is a definite north shore weekend for the wife & I. We went to Ewa today- took the 12' board out today and had an OK time, but the shallow water and small waves of the south side just doesn't hold the same appeal. I'm a boogie-boarder and that's what I prefer to do, so I much prefer the far larger surf of the north side!
BTW: I keep this giant combat knife next to the driver's seat, aka "the redneck toothpick", and found out today that it's perfect for carving up fresh mangoes after a long day of wrestling with a long board! This island is amazing with the sea life and tropical fruit that grows out of everything.
I'll send you a PM with my phone number- Saturday or Sunday are all good with us. Wife and I are both really interested in canoeing- we were looking at buying one maybe used from a rental place.
