I just replace the shift lever in one of my company's F-450s today and of course had to pull the ignition cylinder out. Evidently a part must have fallen off that I didn't see because now when I turn the switch and try to start the truck, I don't feel the spring that turns the cylinder back to the run position. I was told by Westway Ford that I was missing a couple parts, but I can figure out how the heck they fit together. One is a green plastic piece and the other is a bare metal piece. I do have the little gear that fits onto the end of the cylinder.
I'm at my wit's end here. Any ideas? I need to get this fixed soon. It's needed on some job sites.
Well I ended up getting the cylinder and the gear in there good enough that it is now functioning, at least temporarily. I still need to figure out how to get those other parts in properly. Here's the part numbers from Ford:
The two listed above still need to be installed to keep everything within spec.
So far the truck is working food. The driver of the truck didn't notice any difference in the ignition.
After this week, I'm glad it's over. I just got done replacing the shift lever, gear selector cable, rear brakes (pads, shoes, and rotors) and while I had everything apart I replaced the seals and bearings. All this while still putting out all the other fires the company can throw at me.
I've been the only mechanic for the company for a couple months now. I have 2 dump trucks, 1 cement truck, 7 pickups, 2 F450s, and about 30 other pieces of equipment. To say I am more busy than I can handle would be an understatement. Not even so much as a raise or an attaboy for stepping up to the plate. I have 2 years experience as a mechanic and just starting learning how to weld this past year. Now I have to do it all myself.
Anyone know of a job opening in Dallas, TX? I'm getting screwed where I'm at...
