Hope everyone is good. Been awhile for me here on FTE. Short story. 68 with 390--well built--explained if needed--C6, power brakes, power steering, rebuilt front end, and AC.
Problem....Rust. My 68 is rusting away. i haven't had the chance to paint and repair. repair cost is an issue. I have chance to buy a 77 with a straight body and no rust. It has a 302 and c4. I want to swap my current 390 and c6. I also want to swap my front end which is completely rebuilt ,..king pins and all. My question is.. will have the ability to do this. I know the 77 F100 didn't have the FE option. Did the frame have the FE perch holes? PS holes? front end swap issues? Any problems here?
I,
__don't see much anything good for this.
As for swapping parts, ask "number dummy".
He might be able to help.
You can find him in/around the
_1967 - 1972 F-100 And Larger F-Series Trucks_ side.
asking NumberDummy would be about the best thing to do. I think that the last year for the FE engines in trucks was 1976, so I don't think that the frame perches would be the same.
Find towers from a 76 or older, they should help you out alot in the swap department. If you have a welder, some steel, and a little bit of ingenuity, you could bolt up any engine combo you can dream up.
i did the same swap about 30 years ago i put my 390/c6 from a 68 parklane in to a 79 supercab that had a 302/c4 if you look on the frame where the towers would mount there should be 2 or 3 sets of holes if you have the right towers you can put any engine trans combo in this truck the bottom holes should be the same my trans crossmember even worked with out mods
Why would you want to swap a front end that has drum brakes over to a truck that has disc brakes?
Spindles, radius rods, I-beams, king pins, nothing is the same after 1972.
Keep the discs, forget about using that drum brake front end.
I have seen Bump-sides 2WD with disc brakes on the 3/4 ton trucks, 68-ish thru 72. Not any of em showed signs of being swapped out. 4x4's and 1/2 tons on the other hand, drum brakes, YUK!
For those who wanna know, the easiest way to convert drum to disc is to swap out the entire I-beam assembly from the pivot out, and change the master cylinder.

Don't forget you also have to change out the proportioning valve too.
I guess had I looked at his sig. instead of trying to find the info in his post, I woulda caught the fact that the info I just posted was irrelevant. DOOH! One wrong answer RPOC!
Wow, thanks for all the replies. Sorry for the confusion Numbers. I will clarify. I have a 68 that I swapped the front end out of a "73" for the discs, power steering, and power brakes about ten years ago. I rebuilt the front end at that time. I would almost bet that the frame has the holes...but....there is no room to see if they are there by looking in and under the truck currently.
At any rate, i've decided to attact the rust on my 68. Just like the look.
The bolt holes are there already, you just swap the I-beams out, just like you did before.
I would bet that if you were to go and check out a 73, a 76 and a 79, they will all have the same holes for motor towers. I am parting out a 73 that had a 360. If you want the towers, PM me.
