thinking about an 08 or 09

Since you guys have experience with these engines, here is my issue. I am thinking about a f250 king ranch crew cab short bed. I will be putting either an icon or bilstein leveling kit on the front of the truck so i can run 36" tires. I have been thinking about the diesel for a while, but since I rarely tow anything, diesel fuel costs so much, the 6.4 costs so much, maintenance is way more, I'm going to get the v-10. I calculated that a v-10 at 12mpg vs a 6.4 at 14mpg (which seems to be close to what guys are claiming). At 200,000 miles the v-10 costs almost 20,000 bucks less. that fuel costs and cost of the engine alone. That doesn't include the uber expensive oil change.

back to my question. since I will be running 36" tires on the truck, will 4.10 gears be a good match for the truck? I will use it as a daily driver, little offroading, my every day vehicle.

thanks
micky

I would get the 4.30s. That's what I did. I have 35s now. 36" tires are about the max for the 4.30s. Too bad they don't offer a 4.56 option.

The V10 performs better and is actually more efficient at higher RPMs. You might have noticed that the highest gear available is 4.10.

Imagine how much torque is being put to the ground if a truck is equipped with 4.30 gears and has the base 245/70/17 tire at 31" tall.

Yes, you would be better served with 4.30. Also, if you're putting a leveling kit on it, why not get a F350 so you can just lift the front by 2" to level it? If you get a F250 and put a leveling kit you might be high in the front compared to the rear.

4:30s definatly. Would benefit from even lower gearing, however 4:30s will work fine especially since you don't tow much or at all. With larger tires around town 10mpg would probably be more realistic for the V10 however in stock form I don't see the 6.4l getting much better around town mpg wise. On the highway though the diesel should widen the gap mpgwise.

Agree with the other posts. The 4.30s will certainly be a better fit for those larger tires. Enjoy the heck out of your KR V10! OBTW: Post some pics when you get her!

Good luck...

4.30 is the way to go like everyone else said. i don't plan on lifting, or leveling my truck and will only run stock sized tires, but the 4.30 gears are the way to go especially if you ever plan to tow anything. I have just over 10k on mine and love it and the gearing. I pull a 10k 32' fifth wheel like she aint even there. very happy with the truck

Sorry dude...but I think that is there job!

The way I see it...is work the trade-in and the sale of the new truck as two separate deals. I prefer to start with the new truck...and when I am comfortable with the deal, then move on to the trade-in.

If you get a fantastic deal on buying the new truck, then expect to take a hit on the trade. Dealer is in business to make money...and all that jazz.

Good luck!

You will have to give them your truck as they don't want it.... you best sale it yourself.
Look for leveling kit installed at the factory like mine has, its called 'snow plow package $85'.

You can run 35s with or without plow springs.

Yes, I ran 35 inch BFG's A/T in stock form before upgrading to a 6 inch lift then I put 37 inch superswampers with 4.30. I am kind of getting away with the 4.30 when I should of had the 4.56. But, it runs and pulls great. MPG's is horrendous

What's the point of a leveling kit?

A leveling kit is only a leveling kit on a F350. An F250 is level (or damned close). A leveling kit is for those that don't like the "raked" look of an F350. An F350 rides approximately 2" higher in the rear than the front, so a leveling kit raises the front approximately 2". If you put a leveling kit on an F250 it will ride high in the front. Plow springs are not a leveling kit, they are plow springs; although, they may raise the front of the vehicle higher than if you didn't have plow springs.

35" tires fit on a 2005+ F250 or F350 without a lift. Some people like the looks of a lifted vehicle, so they lift it. Some don't like the looks of the raked F350, so they lift the front to even it out. But, ultimately, you can put 35" tires on a stock 2005+ SD.

You are right...i have the plow package that raises the front end like a 'leveling kit'. I added 1/2" in height to the rear so it doesnt look like its sagging.
