I have a 2000 Expedition with 180,000 miles on it. It is a great truck but I have an occasional problem with the power steering. It seems to happen only when hot, in summer or after a long drive. The power assist stops working in a parking lot or when I turn into my driveway. Has anyone been able to correct this?
ever had power steering pump replaced? or power steering fluid flushed out and replaced? id start there... not a very expensive or tough job. Mine used to do some weird stuff and make some weird noises...got a new pump and now its smooth as can be...
Something else to consider, check the tires. If they are a little low, that will make it steer hard too. If it is a diesel truck, it has a lot more weight to deal with than a gas motor, about 500lbs more on the front end.
