Mirrors

Please excuse my ignorance but how the heck do you get the mirrors apart to change the lights???

I am afraid I am going to break them as much as I have been pulling and prying on these things.

No one here knows how to change these out?
My truck is a 2003 f-250 PS 6.0 with the towing mirrors with the side marker lights. Both bulbs are blown on drivers side and one on the pass side.
I have had a couple of people tell me that you have to pop out the mirror glass to do the job. I just want to make sure that is how to do it before I break them and have to replace the whole mirror.

Someone hit mine right on the outside edge and the front half was loose from the mirror lamp side it snapped back together so it might pry apart there. hope that helps someone who know exactly how to replace the lamps should chime in soon

you dont have lamps inside mirrors, those are diodes IIRC, and you can take them out by swinging the main mirror max to the window and you can get a skinny screwdriver to lift the tabs and pop the signal part off.
you can go to Recon and see if they have PDF when you by those smoke lenses, im sure this would help you out. (see if somone has the instructions , that they can send you a copy of )
but from what i remember you have tabs inside behind the top mirror....

Not sure if we are talking about the same mirror. The link from Recon looks like it is talking about the mirrors with the signal lights in the mirror its self. My mirrors do not have that. The ones I am talking about are the mirrors that are two part, upper and lower and have the orange side marker lights. The side orange marker lights are the ones I am trying to get to. I will still check out my mirrors and see if they come apart the same way though.

Hi Cleevesj. The link toolman05kr posted is for your mirrors. I broke one of the side market lights on the mirror (outside running vertical on the mirror body). I bought the replacement from Recon and they have been on for about a year now. They are a strip of LEDs. You have to pry the clip, from the inside of the big mirror cavity, to get the outside marker light moving away from the mirror body. I was able to carefully pry the side marker out after that. Recon was much cheaper than Ford or eBay to replace it at the time.
