engine replacement

will a 1997 ranger 2.3 engine run correctly in a 2001 ranger 2.3 or is the sensors/computer different ?

If the engine in your 2001 is the DOHC 2.3 Duratec engine (143 CID), you are dealing with two different engines. The 2.3 SOHC Lima engine (140 CID) is a completely different engine family. Early 2001 models had the 2.5 SOHC Lima engine and may make a swap. I'm not sure about emission systems which would result in different sensors compared to the 1997 2.3.

The computer, harness and sensors would all be different on the 2.3 dohc duratec.
