ubolt on accel cable..

ok so this truck i bought has some weird thing with the accel cable done by previous owner.. it has a ubolt on the accel cable about 3/4 of an inch from the end where the pedal is..is this some rigged up contraption to increase rpm or what? thats the only thing i can think of.. any other reasons for this odd setup?

Unless the cable was broken..???????? or replaced with one too long.

Shortening the cable will not increase final RPM.......

The previous owner of my truck did the same thing, the u-bolt eventually caused my cable to snap. So I took it off a replaced the u-bolt with zip ties.

All this does is bring the throttle pedal up higher and make the cable pull sooner. Even with a new cable I had about an inch of play, and it was a bear to drive the truck on the highway with a trailer because I had to hold the pedal almost to the floor.

With the cable pulled tighter I am able to feather the pedal while driving instead of holding it at the floor(much easyier on my leg).

This is basically a trick that I learned while working on my 4cyl ranger. It made the throttle more responsive because there was less travel and play in the cable. As long as you dont set it to tight, Ive never had a cable break doing this and it does help with how responsive the truck is upon first mashing the pedal.

I had a lot of play in my cable also when I changed it. It turned out that the bracket that holds the accelerator was bent over a little to one side. Once I bent the bracket back into position the cable fit correctly.

is the play in the cable caused wear and tear? it just streaches out? or was there a little bit of play in it off the dealers lot?

I lean more toward the cables stretch over time.
20 years is a long time to stretch.
