Question Soft Brake peddle ?

Ok all you smart guys and gals....my brake is soft and goes way down if I keep my foot on it. I see no leaks so I hooked a vacuum gage up and the pump is sucking at around 24 psi. Now when I put the brakes on the vacuum gage goes crazy and bounces from 0 to 20-25. If I take my foot off it slowly returns to around 24 psi. So is the pump bad and cant keep up to the vacuum needed for the brakes or is the brake booster bad ?

Any help is appreciated as there are no diesel mechs around here. I know the brakes work the same on gas rigs but when ya own a diesel its best to ask a diesel person !

1984 F250HD, 6.9 and all stock, 126K miles and all mine....I love this truck !

Thanks ahead of time !

If your pressing hard at a stop it will do that..... use it like you would driving, sufficient to stop and remain stopped.

The Fading Bronco Brake Pedal

Apply brakes very slowly several times while observing the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.

NOTE:
Master cylinder bypass typically occurs when the brakes are applied very slowly and line pressures are low. A "hard" apply can flare the internal lip seals out and result in a passing test where the concern may in fact be valid.

Does the level remain the same?

Yes
Bad M/C

No
Master cylinder checks OK.

Stll a soft peddle

Ok so i checked the fuild and the rear fluid was maybe a 1/4 inch below the top and the front (little) was maybe 1/2 inch low. I filled them both and did a slow soft push on the brakes many times and seen no bubbles at all. I put the top back on and I still have the problem. the peddle goes down real slow if I keep pressure on it, I know its not normal....I've had the truck sence I drove it out the show room doors in 84'. I sat with it running for at least 20 minutes and kept hitting the breaks, soft, hard, slow and fast trying to see a fluid leak but I see no fresh fluid running anywhere. I think if it was leaking onto the vacuum canister that it would leak out somewhere.
I have replaced many breaks but this soft peddle thing is something new for me.............guess maybe its time to see if theres a place in town to help...

Thanks

no ABS

Nope, Mine is a 1984 F250hd without all that ABS crap. I was just talking with a neighbor and he said to get some soapy water and spray it around all the rubber lines, they wont bubble like air lines but I should be able to see the water get sucked in !

Thanks !

Then you have water in your fluid so you had better change it all. Which probably is a good idea anyway.

Question think I figured it out

I went and pushed on the brakes with the motor on and off many times....and finally seen some fresh wet streaks down the booster where the master cylinder bolts on...............so it looks to be a bleed by on the master cylinder......hell its almost 25 years old so I guess thats a good time on rubber seals to last !
So now to decide on just a master cylinder change for around $40 or a master cylinder and booster change at around $130 ! to many decisions ! LOL
