56 headliner

bought a headliner from midfifties. the instructions say to pull the rear window. does this really need to be done? has anyone done this install different?

If it is a small backwindow, yes you need to remove the backglass to install the headliner. It will look like a pro installed it when you get done. I lucked out that the rubber was fresh enough for me to remove the glass and rubber with no damage to either. Take your time when you do it, this is something not to rush. I did it on a hot Iowa summer afternoon on a saturday, the wife and I were dripping wet from head to toe from swet. And a sense of accomplishment when finished. Good Luck!

I put my cardboard headliner in my '54 without removing the backwindow. My rubber was new and pliable also but I think that helped me pull down the rubber and put the headliner in OK. There are some kinks in it, but it looks good. You definitely need 4 hands to put this in. My wife who usually doesn;t help with this kind of stuff, helped me with this and we had fun doing it.
