too good to be true?

pull the blue book value on it. Have the dealer show you a copy of the oasis report, will show all warrenty work, carfax report, they should show you that too. I would be looking at the suspension real good, get underthere and see if it has been overloaded, look at them springs and u-joints. How many miles, look at the steering linkage, ball joints.

I would try to talk to the previous owner/s personally. I purchased mine from a rather large dealer and I'm convinced that most car stealers don't even know what their selling most of the time. (Rear-end was out 1 month after I got her home) I would ask for maintanence records- oil and filter changes, etc. See what the previous owners used the truck for- driving to work, pulling, recreation, etc. Like Senix suggest- past usage knowledge could save you many a headache and expense in the future. My 2.

rwelch9439, check the build date - prior to May, 2005 on the 5.4L 3V the cam phaser gears should be replaced or you get the annoying ticking noise. Might be able to get the dealer to throw this fix in on the purchase if the motor is ticking. Also make sure you have the exhaust donuts checked - leaking donuts can also cause noise. These engines should be notably quiet when running until you hit the go pedal. Sounds like a good price otherwise - is it a crew cab? supercab? etc. That usually makes a difference in price - crew cabs are usually a little higher. edd9000 got a great deal on his.

It won't affect the performance of the truck, its just annoying. I had mine replaced by the dealer when I bought my truck - it was part of the deal. They also did the exhaust donuts and I also had them pull the plugs and put antiseize on the long electrode so that I wouldn't have problems later with them sticking in the block. I ended up replacing all the plugs anyway after I got it home since the dealer just left the old plugs in and put antiseize compound on them.

If I've learned one thing, if it sounds too good to be true...she probably has a *****. Sorry, that doesn't help your situation, but at least it references the title of the thread.
By the way, what's the configuration of the truck, XL reg cab long bed, XLT, Lariat, Crew Cab? Which gas engine?

Get an oasis report done on it so you can see what work has been done under warranty or at any Ford dealers. Just get the VIN number and submit it in the oasis request thread in this forum. Don't assume its a bad truck just because of the price - they're hard to move right now and not selling well. It could be the best time you'll ever see to buy these trucks.
