Anyone think maybe we should have a Anything goes topic for a forum? Maybe make it an 18+ ages so no one will get offended. I think it would be a good idea, where we CAN talk about ANYTHING and not have to worry about it- I.E. politics, jokes, and just random topics to get off your chest....
Good idea??
I know on a couple other site I go on they have em and seems to work out fine with alot of good topics that are brought up.
We already have basically what you are suggesting...Club FTE...you have to be a supporter to enter. By becoming a supporter...you also do away with all the advertising!!!
Very true, but you have to be a supporter to enter. Im talking about something for the average guy who doesnt have the money or need to join. Sure all the goodies for joining are great and If I had the extra money I would.....but alot of people, including me, arent on here all the time and really wouldnt benefit all that much from joining.
Even the club here is moderated as well as mostly self-moderating. I've seen anything goes forums & have no desire to be involved in one here. One mis-step & the blood letting/hatred really gets ugly. No thanks.
I agree. Besides, FTE is family-friendly. Even the Club goes a tad too far sometimes, IMHO. I don't see how anything good for FTE could come from an "anything goes" forum. Those places only attract those with little to no self-control.
It is good to be thinking of doing something new but, a free for all forum would spill over into other forums here due to hate and discontent. Hurt feelings happen enough in a moderated forum.
I think a lot of it has been summed up, but I'll throw in my 2 cents from this side of the isle:
1. It got out of hand. Like it or not, requiring membership weeds out a lot of trouble. Its like people buying a more expensive house not because they need it, because it lessons the chance they will have a neighbor with a non-working car up on jacks in the front driveway rusting away for 6 years.
2. When it was public there were certain folks that were here only for that section, not for anything else on FTE. There were literally some users with a couple of thousand posts in the Pig-pen and you could count their Ford related posts on one hand. Some people apparently found FTE's pig-pen through a search engine looking for political discussion, because they had no posts in other sections and some didn't even own Fords! Not really a way to promote building the Ford tech content here.
The admins/mods had a lot of discussions about the Pig Pen and really tried to make it work, but it was one headache after another.
