So I've been needing to get the motor rebuilt on my 77 F150 Ranger XLT Supercab, LB. It's got a 400 and all the power options, and AC, and cruise. The thing holding me back is how much it's gonna cost. I'm considering getting an already rebuilt motor and replacing the 400. I'm not sure what motor to get tho. I'm thinking about going with a 351. But I don't know the difference between the 351W, 351C, 351M? Or should I just get a rebuilt 400. I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on which motor would be best. Which has the most power/torque. The truck is my daily driver and would like something with some power but yet will get semi decent gas mileage. Thanks in advance.
Cost to have your engine rebuilt, around $2000. You can have it done for less if you cut corners, or if it isnt really that worn out, or if you go all out, its going to add up quick.
I'd prefer to keep the original 400 in there and get it rebuilt and done up with some performance mods. I just need to find a shop to do it. Roughly how long would it take to have a shop rebuild it? It's my daily driver and I need it for driving to work. Are there any other motors that would fit my truck?
After some thought and reading thru the other forum a bit and I'm gonna stick with the 400. Not sure whether to buy a rebuilt one, or have mine rebuilt for better performance. Now all I gotta do is find a reliable shop here in Phoenix and get an estimated cost to have it done.
