Hey all, I just have a few questions about my truck. i am trying to get my truck to run its best before the winter really hits. I have a flathead 6, single carburetor , and it really doesn't seem to very smooth. The throttle response is terrible and a lot of the time if you give it gas you can hear the carburetor sucking in a ton of air and the motor almost cuts out. is there anything i can do to fix this? and adjustment or what not to get it to run smoother.
And while I am on the topic is there anyone who would possibly have a spare choke cable clamp? the little "s" shaped lookin thing (I know...very descriptive) that mounts to the back of the carburetor and clamps onto the choke cable housing. mine snapped. thanks in advance for any help.
When you look straight down the carb push the throttle to wide open, do you see the accelerator pump squirting a solid steady stream of fuel down the barrel/s?
Google "48 ford accelerator pump" and you will see some examples.
Where the pump is and what type it is really depends on the carb it has on it. Ether way you shouldn't have any trouble finding it with a quick search. You should know it when you see it.
The carb should have a metal tag on it, always use the numbers on it when asking for parts for it. That is if it still has it.....
if ya look down the throat of the carb if ya hit the throttle you should see a small squirt of gas coming in from a hole or a jet- if ya ain't got it you need to get the pump checked or rebuilt-accelerator pump that is! should be a single squirter on that model!

unfortunately most guys who rebuild the carbs never put the tag back on
i always do -just because they are helpful to the next man who needs it!!!
