I never seem to have a prob with them. I do em at work all the time. I just Just the biggest one I can fit into it(plastic ones) and then push the tool in as far as it can go, and pop it comes right off. They do sell the fingers for inside the lines from the dealer. My x-coworker messed a bunch of em off. The new E-Series vans still use those fittings.

I'm sure my 95' is original. I can't get it off and nobody wants to take it off, so there it sits.

If your truck has 250K on it and still has the original fuel filter I would definitely change it. Does it still run good? I would think that filter would be clogged up.

I pull wrenches for a living and I have to say the location of this fuel filter is one of the worst I've ever seen. If the tank was 1/2" further away from the frame or if the filter was located 8" forward on the frame this filter would be easy. The quick connects are not really a problem, but the location screws everything up when it comes to servicing.

I agree with you. I don't know why it couldn't be located a few inches farther forward.
