I know this has been covered to the point that I am confused more than when I started looking for answers this weekend. I have a 2001 F350 2wd that I want to service the transmission in. I have a remanufactured FOMOCO trans in it with 60,000 miles. What kind of trans fluid should I run and is there any other things I should check or adjust. I know the trans fluid has been discussed in many different posts as I spent a good part of the weekend going over them. From what I gather you should use the new mercon v (correct). And if I remember from a few months ago someone devised a way to change the touque converter fluid but I haven't been able to find the post. I'm sure when they put the reman in my truck I won't be so lucky to have a converter drain.
Thanks in advance for your help
You are right, the correct fluid now is MERCON V. Ford discontinued MERCON and changed MERCON V to be compatible with the transmissions that used MERCON.
There is nothing to adjust. You can use the option in the procedure to remove the pan and check for trans parts in the pan. Some say you should do it every time, some say it isn't needed. It's your choice.
