Oil Leak
I did some searching here before writing. I also have not had time to look at my issue too closely, I will do that tonight so I am hoping someone can give me some ideas and I can rationalize that with what I see tonight.
I was changing oil the other night... It gets dark early here and I can't get to it during the day.... I saw oil collecting on my part of my oil pan closest to the xmission on the bolts that hold the oil pan on the engine. So.. between the bell housing and lower part of the oil pan, the bolts straight up.
The rear main was replaced and I don't think the oil would leak upwards even if it was leaking
I need to get under (and over) the engine to see what is going on, but can anyone kindly let me know a good area to focus on?
My feeling is it is leaking from top down (doesn't take a genius huh?). So I was gonna look at valve cover gaskets.
I had another ford (old one) that leaked from the intake manifold gasket, but that was during the 80's and carburetors. I am not sure how the intake is formed on this engine.
The bottom line is the back 1/2 of the engine is shoved up under the hood cowling and not easily accessible... Hard for 43 year old person to get to... So I would appreciate some help. I am gonna take my 8 year old out there to assist because his body can contort around.
As always.. thank you. I am not losing a lot of oil at all, but I do a lot of duck and goose hunting trips this time of the year...
Matt
Do you have a camera or something you could mount on a stick to take a look around the back of the engine? I have an Auqaview underwater camera that comes in handy for things that are in tight spaces. Might be able to see the source of a leak with the cam. I know it gets tight back there.
Thanks for replying back!
