Cruise cntrl trouble
"05 Ranger FX4 4.0L 4X4, The cruise control just quit!! The fuse is good, but the little icon on the dash display doesn't come up on the ignition start mode is engaged. I can"t remember if it"s supposed to. The wiring diagram in the Haynes book is useless. I've got a code reader but still don't know what to look for. Please help!!

Check your rear stop light lamps.
If one is burned out, it'll effect the cruise control as it's cutoff sensing control is sensing current flow through the rear stop lamp filiments.
You can check them without a helper by turning the emergency flashers on, as they use the same filiments.
If that doesn't pan out, check the switch & it's wiring on the brake mater cylinder.
If that doesn't lead anywhere & this puppy is still under warranty, make it Fords problem!!!!

Issues with Cruise Control
I actually have an 2005 Ranger Edge 4.0 and I had an issue with my Cruise control making really loud buzzing noises while the cruise control was on or sometimes it wouldn't work at all. I took it in and actually a friend ended up working on my truck. The service advisor there kept saying it was my tires I heard buzzing due to having 33's I told him I was a girl but not dumb. He said that he had to call in due to no TSB or Recall being on it and the person he spoke with told him that the cruise control cable was made a little bit to long and it vibrates causing it to make really loud buzzing or not work very well. Their solution was to put a cable tie (zip tie) on it to make enough pressure to shorten it to stop the buzzing. But that was after they had to replace mine due to them pinching my cable and I had no throttle. Don't know if this will help but hope it helps some.
