Anyone had any gas gauge issues? Mine dosent work. so i dont know how much gas i got. Ive been told because when i start the truck the gauge moves that the actual gauge works, so im guessing, the floater in the tank isnt working like it should. I just wanna know how much this is gonna cost me, ive heard 300 bucks
I have the same problem with my fuel gage. Some times it will start to work and then it stops again. I never know how much fuel I have so I am always topping off. I think it must be the float but I am not sure how much work it is to fix it. Let me know if you get an answer
Same here. My front tank gauge only works when it want to. When it does it is pretty dead on accurate. However it only works about 10- 20% of the time. Ford told me that the entire pump needs to be replaced. Is this true?
If there is a problem with the gauge but not with the pump, you do not have to replace the pump. The issue is either with the sending unit, the wiring for the sending unit, or the gauge itself. I would strongly vote for the sending unit. Do you have to replace the pump? No. Do you have to remove the pump to get at the sending unit? Yes. The sending unit itself is a very simple mechanism; basically a contact that slides up and down a channel as the float rises or falls. Sometimes the slide binds or there is an intermittent signal due to loose wires or partially degraded contacts in the slide. Sounds complicated but isn't at all. If you remove the pump and sending unit, you will see the mechanism. Almost any of the problems with it can be solved with a soldering iron. I would first check the harness connector for the pump and sending unit at the tank before you pull the pump. My experience is that resolving this issue likely won't cost you a dime if you can do the grunt work yourself.
Of course, all of this is based on my experience with a mid 90's v8.
more than likly the sending unit
happened with both trucks of mine
they are junk
you can replace they will work for a while but
eventuly they will start reading wrong
