Monroe shocks from any major parts store is my plan. I've always had good luck with them, and they're reasonably priced.

if you're feeling frisky and have a fat wallet, people swear by Bilstien shocks.

'04 4x4 SC XLT. I replaced the stock shocks with Monroe Sensatracs. Keeps the ride quality, actually makes it better than the stock shocks, and they are not super expensive.

Are they a lot stiffer on compression and/or rebound?

Thanks

That is the great thing about the 9000 series it has nine different settings you can adjust to. I drive everyday with mine set at a 5 I think and it rides better than new. When offroad I crank them all the way down to 1 so I get full compression and extension. It did great up in the Rocky Mtns. while offroading.

do you have the in-dash controller?

and how much did that setup run you? I've always been interested in the 9000 shocks

I went with the bilsteins. Then again, I wanted to level the front and figured since i'm already in there to just use 5100 shocks instead of a leveling kit. The ride is a little harsher on little bumps but the bigger bumps don't feel nearly as bad as when it was stock. If you get off road a bit, you will really notice a difference.

im getting ready to replace mine as well, 50k and i think still the factory ones ... rockauto.com and jegs seemed to have good prices.

Im a bitof a n00b though ... do i just buy 4 replacement shocks (all the same)? Obviously the fronts have the springs, does the shock come out independent of the spring for replacement?

Tk421, I'd suggest that you have a shop change out your fronts. You'll need a coil spring compressor to remove/replace the spring on the front strut.

I've had good luck buying from shockwarehouse.com

TK421, the fronts are different because of the coil over. The fronts aren't too hard to change if you take your time and use a good spring compressor. I bought my shocks from shockwarehouse.com. They are a site sponsor and seemed to have the lowest prices at the time.
