I just got the truck an the starter went out on me. I was just wondering if I might run into anything thing unexpected.
The steering box is leaking really bad. I am thinking about switching it out with one from a junk yard. Is this a common problem? Is there a easier fix for this problem.
Thanks for any help guys, I am new to Ford trucks and is seams like everything needs special tools.
I don't see where Ford ever put a straight six cylinder in a 97 F150, F250 Light Duty or F250 Heavy Duty. Exactly what do you have? Post the VIN if nothing else and we'll go from there.
I was told it is a 97, but I guess I will have to check maybe im wrong. Im at work now but I'll let you know as soon as I can. I do know its a strait 6 F150. I did also notice it says custom on the dash if that helps any.
I just got the truck and haven't had much time with her yet. But it dose look like we will be spending plenty of time together in the future. I got her for next to nothing so I dont mind putting some time and money into her to get a good truck.
Thanks for the advise Rich I think that's the way I'm going to go. I dont want to do it twice.

That strait six is a very strong motor! I'm very impressed by it. I get about the same MPG's as a V8, but after I get it in better shape I'm sure she'll get better.
Reman steering boxes are not that expensive.
$170 for the one I replaced on my 91 f-250.
Mine wasn't leaking though....I had no power assist on right turns only. Turning left was fine....craziest thing I ever experienced.
I had more trouble getting the ball joint seperated from the pitman arm than I had changing the box....
The starter easy. A couple of bolts and a wire, no special tools. The starter relay can also go bad causing a no-start as well to have the starter tested before you buy a new one since they are a little pricey.
