VetNetA forum dedicated to ALL Veterans... their unique needs and wants. A place where Veterans old and new can discuss their problems and find the help and support they are looking for.
I met at man today at our little town Veterans Day ceremony that made my eyes water. Small in frame, slightly stooped over pushing one of the neatest walkers I have ever seen. Lead the small gathering in the Pledge Of Allegiance. Wearing a replica of his WWII dress uniform (a First Shirt BTW).
This hero invaded Africa, Sicily, and was on Omaha Beach on D-Day. While there were many medals on his breast the one that stared out at me was the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. There were no questions I could ask of him...all I Cord do was firmly shake his hand and say thank you and God Bless you....and he understood. All he said back to me is "I was not alone".
My daughter was with me as was her entire high school drill team. This day, this celebration, and this man....will not be forgotten by those that were there today. My daughter wants to be sure that we are always there and that men & women like him are never alone. Not bad for a just short of 17 year old girl.
Thank you to all my Veteran brethren. I hope your day was as good as mine and that frail First Shirt's.
