Post Mickey Thompson Baja Belted

Anyone run these on their Superduty or other truck, especially 36" or bigger? How loud are they? I've heard that sometimes they tend to follow grooves in the pavement... any comments on that? Any other info on ride/noise is appreciated. Also if you could mention the size you are running. Thanks a bunch.

I ran 39/18/16.5 Mickeys on my 2001 SD (I now run 39.5" Swampers). They were a really smooth riding tire and not too loud, but... they pulled all over the road. Of course the 18" width had alot to do with that. The 39/15 may be a little better. They were a pretty good tire IMO, but I just didn't like how bad mine pulled, especially with the size of my truck. I think I may still have some pics on my computer if you want me to send them to you.

I'll check my home computer to see if they are still saved. If they are, I'll put them in my gallery this afternoon.

Ran 35" x 11.5"'s on a '79 swb, they were great everywhere except on the road, horrible in the rain-no sipes. I got about 35k out of these. The more they wear the worse ride, noise and handling got. Very excellant tire off-road for traction and overall "toughness" of the tread and sidewall-I think this is what's makes them marginal on the street though.

I can't find the pics on my photo program on my computer (I think I may have deleted them because I have hard copies). I will try and see if I can find them someplace else, but in the meantime, here are a few links to SDs with the MT Baja belted. Mine looked pretty much the same as the first link. I believe all of the MTs on these trucks are 18" wide, except for the third link (harvest/gold color) which has the 15" wide tires.

if you have half ton axles, the wider mickey's like the 18's and 17.50's will work them loose and tear them up like any wide tire will on a 1/3 ton front end, i think the baja belteds are good on the road compared to tsl's boggers etc... you can get good mileage out of them, and the ride is somewhat good, the wide ones will tend to pull you around when you hit grooves in the road, but that is with any wide tire. also, the noise they make isnt that bad, its more of a high piched whine than a roar like a bogger....very tolerable

WELL I THINK ITS THE LUCK OF THE DRAW, I THINK YOU GUYS KNOW THIS!!! WHEN YOUR BIAS PLY TIRE TAKE TAKE THE WHOLE BUCKET(A LOT OF WEIGHT) OF WEIGHTS THEY ARE NOT A PERFECTLY ROUND TIRE SO IN THAT CASE IS WHY THEY WOBLE AND BOUNCE. SO MY BROTHER SHOULD OF CAUGHT ALL THE WEIGHT ON HIS TIRES.

They are bias, but they have nylon so there is no flat spot on a cold morning. I have heard some good and bad things about these tires, but I think some of it has to do with the truck. If you have IFS, and wide tires that pull, it's going to cause problems. Also If you have loose steering or wheel bearings with excess play then again more problems.

I have 39" Claws right now, and they actually run great on the street (except they are super noisy and my mileage sucks). They were almost perfectly balanced without weights, but I went ahead and balanced them anyway. I drove them for awhile before I balanced them, and they still drove ok.

You can use special "patch" balances that are like those old bicycle innertube patches, but they have weight to them and are made to balance tires. You need to find someone with a Hunter GPS9700 balancing machine (or something like it) that has a program for "patch balancing." Believe me, it works real well.

A couple people have told me that MT now has better quality control, and their tires are more balanced. Maybe they had problems before? Anyway I think I'm going to cross my fingers and try a set since I had good luck with the Claws.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Sep-02 AT 11:30 PM (EST)]I was close, heh

two of my friends run the 39x18's and have gotten about 40,000 miles out of them, with careful rotation and air pressure monitering
