unless im wrong I have never seen an electric fuel pump not come on with the key on but will when your cranking the motor. I replaced the fuel pump and Im getting the same thing it will start but some times if you tap the gas it will die and other times it will run. I pulled the fuel filter and turned on the key but I dont get any gas but when I crank the motor gas will come out. 1992 b-2600. Any Ideas
When you turn the ignition to "ON" but not to "START," you should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. Do you hear the pump run? If not, you may need to replace the fuel pump relay. It is located beneath the engine compartment fuse box.
If the pump runs, check for fuel pressure. There is a Schrader type valve on the fuel rail. Also, pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator. If there is gas in the line, the regulator is bad.
I cant hear the pump but it it will fire right up and run till its hot or sometimes it wont run at all. Do you have a picture of the relay. No gas in the regulator
Something is whacked with the PCM/ECA. Take a couple of minutes to pull the codes & see if that gives you any clues such as a code 511 ECA memory failure or maybe a 513 ECA voltage failure..
The ECA/computer is supposed to ground the pump relay & run the pump for 2 seconds when the key is turned one click. When the engine is running & the ECA sees ignition pulses it holds the ground to the relay to keep the pump running.
BTW do all the dash lights & the check engine light come on when you turn the key one click?
Is there a way to pull the codes or only with a code reader? All lights come on with a single turn. I pulled off the fuel pump relay it is a pigtail type 4 wires is there a way to check this?
I did find when you test the ful pump preasure that you have to jumper 2 wires with the key on to start your pump so it sounds to me that just turning on the key dosent start your fuel pump. If thats corect it would be the first electric fuel pump I have heard of that dosent come on when the key is turned. I did find a few plugs not conected just hanging there with no place to go but none of them look like the pics in the diagram, Maybe start back on the ignition. Do you have any other thoughts. Thanks
I always thought there were twins as well. It has a wiring diagram but its hard as hell to understand. Thanks for all your help it was huge. If I figure anything out I will post.
