I've been around for awhile and I am curious. Has anybody heard of or done a tranny swap from newer five speed tranny into the ex with the 4 speed? Sorry I don't know the trann names. I have a 2000 with the 7.3. Would this put the engine into an unfavorable engine speed? I have not done a search on the forum for this, just curious if anybody has done something like this. I also under stand the possibilty of different input shaft ect...
The physical should be doable, the wiring and computer control would be the difficult part. The EEC-V computer might be programmable for it, but you'd have to check with custom tuners about that.
The top three gears in the TorqShift five speed trans are identical to the top three in the 4R100 four speed trans. What's different is the TorqShift has a 3.11:1 first gear, the 4R100 has 2.47:1. So you would gain some launch, but nothing after the truck is more than about 10 MPH.
The TorqShift was never made with a bellhousing that will bolt to a 7.3L. You'd need to have an adaptor made. I'd guess that's a couple thousand, but that is the cheap part.
Custom wiring and a custom computer to make this work is going to cost a lot. You could buy a brand new truck for less than this will cost. There is NO WAY to make the computer in your truck shift a TorqShift.
