my buddy has one...it's pretty nice. keeps you off the ground! no bugs! and held up good in the wind. he had a queen size air matteress inside and looked like a nice set up. not sure what brand he has.
Search for Sportz Truck tents, hands down the best ones I've seen (and used). I've had one of these for 6+ years and it's held up great. I've used it in the Cali dunes and up in the mountains (living in PA now) and it worked great. If you have a 6' box on your truck, make sure you get one that will allow you to sleep comfortably, some tents stop right at the edge of the bed where others flow onto the tailgate, giving you some extra room. I have an 8' box and I'm 6-3 so I have a little extra room for the dogs when I go out.
I have one of the adventurer brand bed tents. Used it for several years, excellent quality. Got mine at cabelas. The main difference between the sportz brand and the adventurer is the sportz tent has a floor. This means you have to completely empty the bed to put up the tent, with the adventurer you can leave stuff in the bed while you set up or tear down. Handy for me cause I can set up my cot, set up the tent in the bed and leave my tool boxes, bags etc in place.
Okay...I know it's not a Ford but I love camping with my truck and tent. Figured it was worth my input.
I use the tent from camp-right.com. The quality is very good and it's a cinch to put up. Obviously my tent would be different that one that goes on a SD but I imagine the quality would be the same.
If I had to look for a tent for a truck that had a normal bed (unlike my Avalanche) I'd look for one that extended over the front of the bed to prevent water intrusion. Mine extends over the the back part of cab since it has the Mid-Gate.
Great info on the floor! Mine doesn't have a floor and it makes it a lot easier to set up! I have a BedRug bedliner which adds an extra measure of comfort required by my wife.
i have one and LOVE it! i have the sportz 2. they have 3 different versions. the first one doesnt use the tail gate. the second one goes onto the tail gate and is a bit taller. the third one is just taller then the second. I bought the second one because i wanted the longer bit by using the tail gate but didnt want the hight of the third, as i go to the desert and there is some wind a lot of the time. it is great because i load my truck up with stuff then when i get there unload it put the tent in and am done. having it in the bed makes it much better then the ground, wind doesnt affect it as much as it would when on the ground. it is always flat and smoth. less chance of bugs in the tent. wet ground doesnt bother me any.
but you should remember to bing a broom with you to brush the truck bed out when you are going to set up the tent.
they also have a camoflaush print one, but it costs more. if you are interested i can tell you how to buy one for less then retail.
Those are cool! I like sleeping in the back of my truck when the weathers good.
But what's the dif from putting up a tent?
I can drive away from a tent and come back latter. But drive around with a tent?

It gets you up off the ground and comes in extremely handy if you're on an uneven surface (wedge wood/rocks to level the truck). You can drive at slow speeds with the tent setup (with the model I have, I can put the tailgate up), but I wouldn't really recommend it. I had to remove a stuck truck and ended up throwing sand/dust all over mine, took a while to clean.

yeah the ground will keep you cold, if it is uneaven it is bothersome, bugs and stuff would have a harder time getting into the truck tent then a normal tent, wind also effects this tent much less then a normal tent. half the tent is under the bed rails, and it cant blow away on me. i have also driven my truck with the tent in the bed but just to re part my truck on the other side of the camp fire (away from the smoke). when camping i dont drive my truck much, we go off roading and take the jeeps.
Do you think any of these tents would fit over my backrack and tool box? When I camp I usally just set up my small two person coleman tent in the bed, it fits pretty well but I think I would have more room if it was made for the truck
i bought one that was returned for some reason, it is still good and has all the parts but it might have a small stain or is dirty, but i couldnt find anything wrong with the one i got. also there are places that are getting rid of the Sportz 1 and 2 because they are now getting the Sportz 3, i didnt want the 3 anyways because it is taller then the first 2 and i didnt want it tall because of wind. i think retail was up in the 180 to 200 and i paid something like 130 or so....

if you buy one that is shorter (for a 4.5 foot bed, if you have a 6 foot, or by a 6 foot if you have a 8 foot) you might get lucky, the only problem is is that it sits on the bed rails and with the tool box being so much higher (the truck in your avitar) you might end up in a pinch.
