A couple of months ago I installed the high idle mod. Since then I have been idling my truck every morning (Mon - Fri) for at least 20 minutes while waiting for my daughters school bus so I can see how the egr valve will look. I use B2 on every fillup without any additive; the only time I use an additive is when we go out of town and fill up with regular diesel, which isn't very often (the additives I use are Diesel Kleen in the gray bottle and sometimes Firepower 404). Here is a picture of the egr valve... I was amazed at how clean it was compared to the last time I pulled it which was at least 10,000 miles ago. I really believe the high idle mod is the reason why the egr valve isn't all gummed up with wet crud.
There was just a tiny bit of "stickey crud" in the hole which I cleaned out but it looked really good also... it was mostly dry. Since the egr valve is pretty clean does this mean the turbo should be clean too?
Your turbo will be dirty/sticky from your CCV line routed in to the intake tube. There is a possibility that it's cleaner , than without the high idle mod.

Good point! I forgot about the CCV line. I will put the re-route on a to do list!
It is really easy to do ( if you don't go with a filter ), I did mine a while ago, and I'm glad to say that my turbo is clean as possible.... Well, it's has a little fume at the light with the windows down ( I routed it to the rear wheel ) , but I'm glad to have it done...
