has anyone used helper springs to essentially "pre-load" their leaf springs to get a better ride and lower the back of their truck...
I am thinking that this would work on my 92 4x4:
Tightening down a helper spring so that it compresses (flattens) the first leaf of your stock springs would essentially replicate a 500 pound load in the back of the truck. Which would accomplish two things:
1) a smoother ride
2) a level truck (cheaper than leveling coils/no worries re: alignment)
please give me your opinions, experience on this matter...
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Sep-02 AT 03:05 PM (EST)]I don't know what your spring pack looks like but on some trucks they have an overload spring already installed. It is the last spring on the bottom. If you remove that spring your truck will ride better (softer) and be about 1/2" lower in the rear. You can also check to see if you don't actaully have lift blocks in the rear. If you do then you can remove them and that will lower the rear.
