K & N

I've heard the trash talk about the K & N filters in the 94.5-97 stroke forum, but what about in an '03? Also, what about a bully dog or AFE? Is it all the same or are the last two alright?

Steer clear of K&Ns. AFE's are pretty good, go with the oil less filters.

Also, keep in mind for the 6.0 it's a waste of money unless you have more than 500hp. The stock air filter flows plenty of air.

FWIW, when I bought my truck it had a K&N filter on it. I have no clue when it was last cleaned, but it was pretty well packed. Anyhow, I chose to put a stock air box and filter back on it. When I pulled it all apart, the turbo was as clean as a whistle. The moral of my story is that the K&N 'appeared' to do a sufficient job filtering the air. Nonetheless, I still took it out.

If you dust a turbo and value your warranty, stay stock. It is good for 500 hp and will hold 3 to 5 pounds of dirt.

I ran K&N for almost a year in my 6.0, and after I read about it, I took it out of my truck. It is unbelievable how much gunk I've had in the intake tube. I put the factory-one right back in, and of course I didn't feel any performance difference, and since that I put like 20k miles in my truck with no turbo issues ( knock on wood)....
