I picked up my new 2008 F-250 a week ago and have a question about the dash/interior lights. Every vehicle I have ever driven; Ford, Chevy, Dodge, so on and so on has the ability to shut off the dome light so it doesn't come on when the doors are opened. This normally is done by rotating the dash light switch all the way down or on some of the Chevy products it was a button that you'd push. Anyway, with my new f-250 apparently doesn't have this option. I have checked with the dealer, I have searched the owner's manual and have come up with nothing.
Why would a person want to do this you may ask? For one thing, it is a security issue; you may want to exit your vehicle without being "spotlighted/illuminated" most police vehicles operate this way. During the summer months, a person may want to leave a door open without an interior light filling the cab with bugs. At 6:15 in the morning, I want to be able to put my 5 month old child in the vehicle without having lights on so she doesn't wake up for the drive to daycare. I'm sure this list could be a MILE long, but these are just a few examples.
Again, I have searched the owner's manual and can't find anything. I'm not really interested in modifying a new vehilce with an extra toggle switch nor do I want to take the bulbs out because there are times when I do want the lights on. The reason for the post is two-fold: If I have overlooked something I'd appreciate someone pointing it out. If I haven't overlooked something, I'd like to express my disappointment with not having such a simple feature on the truck.
there is a dimmer switch, right hand side by the steering colulmn.
To the left of the steering column is the headlight switch(****) and the the dash light dimmer. The dash light dimmer allows me to turn the dome light on, but not off.
To the right of the steering column is the gear shift and ignition.
oh, I misunderstood. You want to be able to turn the dome light off period. Not sure how one would do that without taking the bulb out. Maybe someone else will chime in.

No problem, I was hoping it was something simple that I had just overlooked but that hasn't turned out to be the case.
