I´m going to buy some replacement Headlights for the bronco through internet and wanted some advice. Don´t want anything too custom, just wand, durable, affordable, enhanced lighting. Any recomendations on lightbulbs also? i´ve read some about the HILITE Xenon HID 7000K Super White bulbs. wich ones would you recomend?.
I bought the sylvania 55/65 9007s. This is the stock requirement for the truck, and they are fairly bright. I wish I would have spent the extra 10 bucks and gotten the 60/80s, previous posts on here say that they will work with the stock wires. Going beyond that, you will need to upgrade wires so that they will not melt. If you have condensation in the headlights, any bulb that you install will be drastically reduced. Drill some holes in the bottom of the lens and let the water drain out. I used the old trusty air compressor to assist in the water removal. Some people seal the lights after getting them dry, I just left the holes for future drainage.
Lastly, don't put 9004 bulbs in a truck that requries 9007s and vice versa. They will fit, but the highbeam and lowbeam will come on at the same time.
it is about $14 for a pair of stockers, about $24 for 60/80s. you can pay as much as $60 for about the same quality. don't pay more than $30 for a set of bulbs
Good question! Since I just replaced the front headlamps assemblys on my 95 Bronco. I think I got a good price on a set of factory replacements that included the blubs.
I also orderd some 80/100 watt Street Glow Blue Halogen bulbs. I never installed them because........the factory head lamps are all plastic. I think the heat from anything over the factory wattage would create to much heat for the plastic.
So I went and bought another set of stock top of the line Sylvania bulbs. Like$44.00 a set.
Good enough since I got over 780watts of KCs!
If you want aftermarket headlight assemblies or lenses I would avoid that.
The OEM / factory lenses will probably give you the best results as far as beam pattern. I have new lights that I got from JCWhitney. They are made by TYC and are oem replacements. They have held up nicely and the beam pattern is good. DEPO also makes decent replacement lights. I would prefer Ford though but they are more expensive.
Don't get replacement lenses even for parking or tail lights made by glo-brite. Those suck and don't last.
As for bulbs, I like Silverstar or Silverstar Ultra. They are better than the regular bulbs.
Alot of guys like PIAA bulbs, but they are 80-100 bucks.
Most of the other bulbs give wierd color hues and make things look weird at night. Not to mention when its raining they really suck.
If you want added lighting get some decent fog lights, not the euro crap.
I forgot to mention this. If you aren't into the whiter headlights then sylvania who makes the silverstars also makes xtravision bulbs that are 20 percent (I think) brighter than the regular ones. My friend has them and they are definitely brighter than the other bulbs but don't give off any type of colored light. They don't cost much either.
Texas, would you find the exact model your friend uses? and also, i haven´t been able to find Ford original replacements on the net. Do you guys know any site?.
We are talking about the Bronco in your avatar pic right? Its a 92-96 isn't it?
Keep in mind that any of these bulbs are not going to be super bright like off road lights.
The part number for the bulb type is 9007. It is also sometimes referred to as HB5. They are a direct replacement for the factory bulb. Autozone has them for about 20 dollars. I don't know what parts stores are available in your area. You can find a pair of the sylvania xtravision bulbs on Ebay. I found a set on Ebay for pretty cheap. Here is a link.
Are you going to replace the headlight housing as well? I wouldn't worry about that unless they have yellowed badly or are getting water inside them.
As far as an OEM Ford replacment for the assembly I have seen them on Ebay before. You can buy them through Ford but they are more expensive that way. I think you would be happy the the ones made by TYC. I have them and my friend does too.
Thx for the help Tex, it actually is the housing what i need to replace, it´s both yellowish an letting water and moisture in (bulbs on the left side headlight don´t last a week), i cross deep water bodies from time to time so drilling holes isn´t an option.
I think i´m going with the sylvania ones you pointed out, thx a lot!
P.S.: Don´t worry about me touching the bulbs bare-handed, i use cotton gloves when it´s time to install them.
well, bought the housings, will be posting some pics as soon as i get them installed and try the new bulbs (if i get to buy those). Thx for your replies, they helped making my mind.
