I just joined this forum and wanted to say hello. I just purchased my first diesel truck and was hoping that you guys could give me the low down on what to expect from it as far as any problems. I just got a 2000 f-250 4X4 Lariat edition. I have had it for about 2 weeks and just can't believe I waited so long to get into a diesel. I was also wondering about what modifications I should start with to get more power out of it. Thanks
Welcome to the club! Like Tracy said be careful of PMS. Once you got it you can't stop!!
Some of the most common mods larger free flowing exhaust. Changing out the air iintake to something less restrictive. And guages before you install any type of tuner. The prefered one here is DP Tuner.
Welcome to FTE. Don't get in a hurry to mod your truck. Do a lot of reading, and searching. Ask all the questions you want, this forum will steer you right, trust me. You did a good thing coming here before you start throwing thing at the truck. We will help you through this PMS.
Welcome to FTE. Tell us where you're located. Getting more power out of your truck is only limited by your wallet. The best thing to do, is read up here for a little. You'll want to install a set of gauges before adding a chip or tuner to your truck. If you have an auto tranny, you'll also want to install either a valve body or transgo kit to firm up the shifts, and swap over to a better tranny cooler to extend the life of the transmission when you start putting more power through it. You should also consider changing the intake and exhaust to help the airflow. The 6637 is a cheap DIY intake that flows good air, and a 4" exhaust should help things out too.
When you're ready to add the horsepower, skip the off the shelf products like superchips, bullydog, etc., and look into either DP-Tuner or Total Diesel Performance. Both Jody & Tony offer custom tunes for the 7.3. You get to choose which settings come with your chip, and you'll have the option of adding more selections or changing tunes out down the road. If you get really serious, they both offer live tuning, where they fine tune the chip to run better with whatever other modifications you've made to the truck.

Well for starters I am a dairy farmer in souther Michigan near Hillsdale south of Jackson. We milk 50 cows and farm about 400 acres. I decided to go with the diesel because I needed somthing to pull cattle trailers and such. The first week I got it I had to pull a combine from the field down to the shop due to transmision problems. I was throuroughly impressed with the power that the truck showed.
I was also wondering if I got a good deal on the truck.
it has 135,000 miles on it and I paid 7200 for the truck.
Thanks for the great advise I look forward to working with you guys.
Sounds like you got a great deal on the truck. Not sure how the truck looks but for 7200 and it seems to be mechanically sound I would say it was a good deal.
