Got stacks?
I live in upstate NY and just saw a segment on the evening news about how the treehugger police are doing spot diesel exhaust opacity checks in the area. They also showed the head of the THD (tree hugger department) saying "basically, if you see a truck pull away from a red light and any black smoke comes out, it's in violation of the law". I think to myself surely, my diesel F350 daily driver and antique Detroit screamer powered F250 can't be subject to this, they're pickup trucks! Apparently not:
From the NY DMV web site ( NYS DMV - Vehicle Safety, Inspection, Repairs and Dealers )
"Any diesel-powered vehicle with a MGW of 8,501 or more can be required to pass a roadside emissions inspection. The NYS Police and the NYS Department of Transportation conduct these inspections. If the vehicle fails the inspection, the driver can receive a summons and a fine of $700 to $1300 (for repeated violations). The driver can reduce the fine if the vehicle is repaired and passes a reinspection at a DMV-licensed facility within 30 days of the violation."
Will they actually pull over a heavy F250 or F350? My 350 isn't too bad once it's warmed up, but the 250 blows solid columns of black smoke out both stacks if I really put the hammer down. Be careful, guys!
i bulit a cummins with a quick turbo and a preformance vp44 with 100 horse injectors and the smoke that comes out of that thing is unreal talk about rolling coal out the back. but then again i live in rural nevada so people dont mind up here(unless ur behind the truck cause then you cant see) but thats besides the point. diesels even when they are in an over fueling state still have a higher thermal effency than your gas rigs running down the road.
i hate treehuggers they ruin all my fun
Bad thing is that with a majority democratic body in the government, tree huggers are going to have more cojones the before in trying to get stuff like this done. With more and more people on the global warming bandwagon as well(not just the normal tree huggers, but the everyday joes as well), you'll have more public support for those that do "stuff" like this then not.
