I bought a 73 F600 dump, and the fuel pump is leaking, I went to the parts house and nothing matched, mine has the spin on filter at the bottom of the pump, I have 5 valve cover bolts, and I read if the thermastat housing is pointing up and part of the intake that is a 460? and at the parts house if you look up 73 f350 with 460 it has that type pump. how can I tell what I have without tearing into the motor, I cannot read the green sticker on the driver side valve cover
Thanks in advance
there is a vin number decoder in this group 351,400,429,460 all had t-stat arrangment as you described also 351,400 valve cover was flat only up front where the oil filler capis located and rear where the pvc valve was located.
429,460 valve cover's flat from front to rear.
I hope this helps in some way?
460 nailed it. It's an FT engine. FT and FE engines have the 5 bolts on the valve covers. Only way to tell which one you have, is to measure the stroke.
Till I find one, I will need to move it around some, it is leaking out of the rear weap hole when you shut it off, running it dries up and does not leak, when running is fuel getting into the oil? I just changed it and it was like 10 or more quarts.
Thanks

If there is gas in the oil it will be immediately apparent in the smell and look of the fluid that is residing in the crankcase. Make sure not to run it with gas in the oil as it can eat up seals, and also its just not good, given that gas is a solvent and oil is a lubricant. Good luck finding parts for these things its a difficult time I've found. The one piece of advice I can give is that instead of a Shucks or even a Napa if you have a local parts place that's not a chain, many times they have fantastic people who have seen pretty much everything so they might be able to help you.
