Check engine light - which function does it cover? 1989
When your check engine light comes on does it only cover the oil or are there other functions it covers? Once and a while mine will flicker.

The CEL on an '89 is not an oil light. Intead, it tells you that the computer has come across a problem. I'd bet that there are some trouble codes stored which you can try and pull. See: "Alternate Code Retrieval Procedure For EEC-IV Systems"
