If I am walking to my truck as someone is breaking in, I say hey and "feel" threatend I can use deadly force. On top of that use of force is legal to stop any felony whether it's against you or not. That said it's not about the legal finality it's about the hassle of it all. No matter what I would end up in court with at least a wrongfull death suit from the family.
breaking into a vehicle is probably not a felony.

your logic on this one fails me.

a persons life is worth more then your truck?

very sad if that is true.

My truck is my second most important possession second only to my rifle. And it is worth more than the life of the scumbag trying to steal it.

As to whats a felony, the theft of anything worth more than $1500 is second degree theft and a felony.

Having lived in a bad neighborhood, your best option is to not leave anything you can't live without in your truck...

stereo - remove the faceplate each and every time you leave the truck, even if only to wash your hands... speaking from personal experience when my van was stolen while I was washing blood off my hands from butchering a cow.

steering wheel lock - use it or not.. I prefer to use it to prevent the person from ever walking again but the Edmonton Police officer didn't appreciate my logic on that one.. lol

keep your vehicle permit and insurance papers in your wallet and not in the glove box!!!

one of the locking devices that lock your brake pedal up to your steering wheel might be effective at keeping your truck immobile, but then so will pulling the distributor wire or a plug wire or two

I keep a lot of things in my truck too, and my best security device when I leave the driveway is my 97lb protection trained male German shepherd!!! I don't lock the doors to the truck when I am out because my theory is that if anyone is ballsy enough to break into the truck with 97 lbs of p!$$ed offness with really really big strong teeth showing, they deserve to drive it away... lol

Leave a fake, but very real looking severed body part in plain view. No one will break in then.

Very funny Workingdawgs. It's easy to keep a theif from being able to steal the whole truck(without a tow truck anyway).
My worry is possesions inside the cab. I got a good idea what I'm going to do. I'm thinking I gotta keep a theif from being able to break the door locks. Think I'll remove the passenger side lock cylinder and replace the driver side with a sturdy unpickable lock on a solid mount insted of just the door skin. Install a block plate to keep out a slim-jim. And replace the windows with a glass lexan composite like spallsheild, that is vertually unbreakable. Anyone see any problems with this or have any better ideas?

You know... You could remove both lock cylinders and set up a remote entry system (if you have electronic locks, of course.) Although I could see bad things happening there with the battery dying in the key remote... If you have AAA it shouldn't be a problem, driver would get a kick out of something like that.

And I would pay good money (well, maybe like $5, probably less...) to see some punk try and break into a truck like what you are planning...

Most thieves are too stupid to know how to pick a lock, they prefer to punch in the lock cylinder or break a window (both happened to me). I would get a alarm system, or start driving a armoured car. I've had one of my trucks broke into several time over the years, all of my valuables get locked in my toolbox on the bed of my truck...tools, etc.

Why not just take an old 50 foot or so extension cord, cut the end off with the outlet, and ground the hot and neutral wires to something metal on your truck? If you wanna BBQ the would be thief you just gotta remember to plug it in at night.

Seriously aside from sitting on the hood 24/7 with a shotgun there really isn't a way to guarantee that no one will get in your truck. Bullet proof windows and industrial strength locks is only gonna get you your tires stabbed and probably some nice baseball dents along the body. For the most part when they can't get what they want out of your vehicle then they're just as happy to destroy anything they can on it and run away.

read my post again, i said what is in the truck and if you have more then $1500 inside your truck and you are moving into a "bad" neighborhood well then you are just setting yourself up.

edited because you would not understand what i am saying.

but i will say that i feel sorry for you if that is really how you really feel about anyones life.

I live in 'Da Hood' and my truck has been broken into.
The Knaack box in the bed has been drilled and emptied in the midst of a snowstorm.
Cost me three days to round up new tools and get back to work, but insurance paid for it.

There's nothing in my cab worth more than the replacement cost of a side window, so I just leave it unlocked.
Some change has gone missing.....and a pack of smokes.

I've been here 8 years now and most everyone on the block knows that I'm alright but not to ever f with 'That crazy white guy biker with the mohawk'.

We don't have too many tweekers out here but fresh evidence of the junkies, crackheads and wh*r#$ is all over the street and sidewalk every morning.

Sounds to me like you're going to spend more on "security" than your '87 F-350 is worth........

I say just get a decent alarm, use a steering wheel lock (its cheap), take the face off of the radio, don't leave anything in sight.

If you have to leave your laptop in the truck, put it under/behind the seat.
