Look what I found!!!!

Was driving to the bank when I saw this old thing face down in a ditch... Imagine my amazement when I took it home and it worked!! The record player even has a needle still!!!

It needed a fair bit of wax, but it turned out great!! Didn't have to do anything to it mechanically, it works fine!!! I'm really impressed, and wondering why someone would throw it away...

Sell it as an antique. If you don't, make sure to get your DTV converter!

AWESOME!!! My Grandma had one similar, not as fancy just a tv in a box minus the record player. I remember it died at least 10 years ago yet it sat in her living room with a table cloth draped over it until she moved last year, she had a smaller tv and some flowers sitting on it, it made a fine table.

I bet that thing is worth some money to someone.

Thanks, guys... Guess it was my luck, I'm still in disbelief that the thing still works like a charm, I watched the election coverage on it tonight... I woln't sell it, I just can't put a price on it. It looks really cool in my parents foyer, the first thing you see when you come in the door, and hopefully someday it'll go in my house (I'm only 18; in case anybody wondered)...

Some people used to put goldfish bowls in front to enlarge the image (really).

My folks had one... when the thing finally died, Dad cut the cabinet lengthwise and made a display cabinet out of it - thing was heavy and solid hardwood. The speakers I still use out in the shop.

Keep it and enjoy it. It's only worth what it's worth to you.

Those big old console TV/stereo combos aren't worth squat and it's hard to even give one away. That looks like a fairly early color set and would have some value if it weren't in the gigantic combo cabinet.
If you plan to use it, you should dig around in some of the antique radio/TV forums. There are some things that should be done to make it safe and reliable. It would make a nice Winter project.
Capaciors in electronic equipment of that vintage tend to dry out, leak or short which can damage other unavailable parts or even cause a fire. Remember, most of those parts are ~50 years old. Even though they are "working" right now, they can quickly fail at that age. It likely already has many leaky caps.
Start here: Antique Radio Forums :: Index

Edit: I see that is a Magnavox. If it has a Collaro changer in it, it was one of the best available back then. Go out and find some vinyl LPs, you'll be impressed..

What's the brand name?

We had a Muntz console set, somewhat similar to what you found, when I
was a kid, back in late fifties, early sixties.

That is a Magnavox set, from 1959 IIRC. Close to the top of the line in the consumer market back then.

Most Muntz sets were made by a company called Howard Radio and TV to the specifications of Earl "Mad Man" Muntz.
They were later built in his own plant. He was a colorful character, to say the least: Madman Muntz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
