I have 75,000 miles on my Escape. It would not start 2 months ago. Had it towed to my mechanic. When he took it off the flatbed, it started right up after not starting for me for 2 days !! He ran diagnostics & nothing showed up. I drove home & it was fine until now.
Two months later the same thing happened. It wouldn't start. There's spark, it turns over for a split second then abruptly cuts out.
If I keep trying & revving, it eventually will stay running, but when I go to shift into gear, it cuts out abruptly when cold. When it's a little warm from revving & keeping it running it will shift into gear but then idle cuts out & stalls.
I have also noticed that when I was in Park intermittently the car would cut out abruptly. It would always start right back up & be okay. Any suggestions ? From what I'm reading this problem sounds somewhat common in the Escape. But I'm not finding anyswers . . . Thank You !! ThereSe
Sounds like textbook example of idle air control valve problem. Do a search of this forum and find many ideas. Some say clean it, my experience is that cleaning is a short lived fix. I prefer to replace it.
