Oh... all the naysayers who said I didn't have the inside track on this one, when I said the 6.2 wasn't dead.... (including one Ford employee)... eat your heart out. The Raptor isn't the only vehicle being unveiled at SEMA with the 6.2L.
Here's some more inside scoop:
The engine will be available in future applications in displacements in excess of 7 liters (I believe 7.2 or 7.4 was the number I read).
Oh come on Ken! Can't you give us a little hint? I'd like to see them make it a nice round number, like 7.5L. Oh ya, bring back the 460. Now just toss that in a mustang and watch the camaro and challenger fans cry.
and again, Ford gears it for going to church. 4.10s with 34.5" tires come out to about 3.68 gears with a stock 31" tire. Not only will the 3.73 geared trucks have the gearing advantage and actually move better, if you add in the unsprung weight disadvantage of the 34.5" tires, the thing will be like a stock truck w/ 3.55s if not a little worse. Couldn't they for once gear the thing right? 4.56s would come out to an effective gear ratio of 4.10s & 31" tire... The 04-08 HD payload package trucks aren't known for being speed demons as it is, so wouldn't be that far fetched...

Like Ryan stated below, the new 6spd trans has a low 1st and 2nd gears (4.17 1st & 2.34 2nd). Plus the 6.2L should make this thing very stout and quick!

It LOOKS like the extra width came from the A-ARM change. Which would justify the 35's. The bed looks pretty close but may have wider buckets for the wheels, hard to say with the photo's online.
I still think A-Arms, shocks and a fuel map are the updates (besides cosmetics), which I will take cuz it looks AWESOME. Give me that truck for 30anything and it's SOLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!
Another benefit (probably highly intended too) of the larger/longer control arms is enhanced suspension travel. Just look at the amazing travel they got: 11.2" front and 13.4" back! Not only that, the front wheels seem to remain in a negative camber throughout the entire travel, compression and rebound.
I'm a huge fan of the technically advanced, long suspension travel, high speed, baja style dessert runners than the redneck lift approach: stick a huge spacer under the springs and jack it up to the sky.
As long as Ford price this on right, then I'm all in. However, if it ends up costing more than a custom built F350 pre-runner with a Kore suspension, then Ford screwed up big time.

How do I know? Heh heh....
So hold the phone on this one, so your telling me if i hold out long enough i can get a raptor with a 7.2 or a 7.4. I sooooooo hope you are right, look at my sig, we are all about displacement. And man i would do nearly anything to find out how you know this. One last thing how future are we talking here?
well the pickuptrucks.com said "There may be another engine offered for the 2011 model year or later, but Ford is being coy about that information." and they were talking about the raptor in that article. Is that maybe in the not near future but future category? The suspense is killing me. Im just still so excited to see that the raptor and the 6.2 are alive and well.

My guess is a 7.2/7.4L would be for Super Duty applications, possibly the faze out of the V10. This would be not to boost hp but torque.
Looks as if the that 6.2L (BOSS?) isn't going to use Ford's Coil On Plug system...
I hope so.. its not that the coil on plug design is bad, but the spark plug design is horrible. Maybe it will make it possible to do a plug change in under a hour.
