79 150.... 4 wheeler, 351w...... i have alot of play in the steering... how do i adjust it.... ive heard a screw on the top of the steering box... is this right??
First of all you need to check your steering linkage and make sure that all your tie rod ends are tight with no slack.
To adjust the steering box, center the steering wheel in the straight ahead position. Loosen the locknut on the adjusting screw. Hold the screw with a large screwdriver that FITS the screw. Back the nut off the screw a turn or more. Turn the screw clockwise until you feel slight resistance. Hold the screw in this position while snugging down the locknut.
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first time you turn a corner there is a possibility that the steering wheel will not center after turning the corner. If it does not, loosen your adjustment slightly and try again. Sometimes there can be a nick or something in the gears that will cause the steering wheel not to center by itself after adjustment.
